Dragon Quest IX Sells Like Hotcakes, Earns Perfect Score, Plus Details

It should shock absolutely no one that the recently released Dragon Quest IX sold more than a few copies.  In fact, it sold 2,139,000 copies in its opening week, a fact bolstered by a few factors.  Primarily, it’s Dragon Quest.  Also, it’s on the DS, which has the largest installed user base of any current piece of hardware, and last but not least, it also garnered a perfect score from Famitsu, surpassing the 39 Dragon Quest VIII earned in its day.

There has also been a stream of details over the past few days, thanks to an interview with Horii with Famitsu.  Even though the credits will roll, the game isn’t over.  There will be post-game content, a trend that many other games in the series have had.  Dragon Quest VIII had a new dungeon, several additional bosses, and a new ending among other goodies.

Horii also shed some light on the game’s multiplayer aspects.  Up to four players can form a party.  If you’re a little short on friends, you can post a guests wanted sign, and random players can join your game.  When asked about what happens if a guest doesn’t yet have a quest the host wants to go on, Horii answered that guests can download the appropriate quest from the host.
